- Co-discovered Brugada Syndrome in 1992 with his brother Dr. Josep Brugada — a genetic disorder that can trigger sudden cardiac arrest in an otherwise structurally normal heart
- Trained in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology in Maastricht under Prof. Hein Wellens, one of the founding fathers of modern electrophysiology
- Professor of Cardiology and Physiology at Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel – Vrije Universiteit Brussel
- Awarded the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Gold Medal in 2012 for lifetime contributions to cardiology
